The American Express® AeroplanPlus®* Card is a charge card designed to help you redeem points that you earn while flying Air Canada. For only $60 per year, the American Express® AeroplanPlus®* Card lets you rack up points when you use your card to make travel purchases. We recommend using it to pay for flights, hotels, car rentals, dining and more. Every time you use the card, you’ll earn points. You’re also welcome to purchase an additional card for $20 and give it to your family member or friends. This can help you rack up points faster! Be sure to make all payments in full each month to avoid high interest rates. Here are some pros and cons of using the American Express® AeroplanPlus®* Card.
To apply, you must visit the American Express website. You can apply online and the application only takes a few seconds. The website states that you will receive an answer within 60 seconds. You will know immediately whether you’re approved!
The nice thing about a charge card is that you don’t need a strong credit history to apply. American Express may still take into account your credit score when approving you. You will need to be at least 18 years old and a permanent resident of Canada to apply.
Once you agree to these terms, you will be asked to provide your name, email address, date of birth, and social security number. The website states that you will know whether or not you’re approved within 60 seconds.
Before you apply, American Express will make sure you agree to the following terms and conditions:
There is no interest on monthly payments; however, all late payments will be subject to a 30% interest rate.
Payment is due six days before the closing date to allow for processing (you may be able to work with American Express to see if they can adjust this date if it does not work for you!)
You have an interest-free grace period that lasts up to 31 days from the closing date of the current month to the closing date of the next month; the exact date will depend on the number of days in the calendar month
Annual fees for basic cards are $60 and $20 for additional cards up to nine cards
Foreign currency exchange rate is 2.5%
Other fees include a funds advance of 3% of the amount of each funds advance or $0.75, whichever is lower; Dishonored payments are $25 each
The above review of the American Express® AeroplanPlus®* Card is solely based on the opinion of Creditnervana. It’s our opinion that the American Express® AeroplanPlus®* Card is ideal for someone who travels often but doesn’t consider themselves a heavy traveler. If you are, then we recommend going with the Aeroplan Platinum or Reserve cards. These cards will cost more money upfront, but you’ll make your money back with the rewards you receive.
One thing that the American Express® AeroplanPlus®* Card lacks is an annual ticket for a friend. Higher tiers of American Express cards allow you to redeem some of your miles for a ticket for your friend or family member. The ticket must be for someone with the same itinerary as you and the destination must be short, roundtrip.
We recommend the American Express® AeroplanPlus®* Card for the basic traveler. There is a $60 annual fee and you must pay in full each month. This is a charge card and not a credit card. All late fees are subject to a 30% interest rate. We recommend that you make sure each payment is made in full each month to prevent this interest rate!
You’ll receive awesome perks that other credit cards can’t provide, such as the front of the line access to many events. You’ll also be able to sit in any available seat when you fly Air Canada or on one of its partner flights. Earn twice the points when you use your card on purchases made with Air Canada or its partners. Fly to over 1,300 destinations in 190 countries around the world.
Apply for the American Express® AeroplanPlus®* Card now and get a response in 60 seconds
